Our History

Colonial Structures, Inc. is rich in history and heritage. Our roots go all the way back to 1978 when our president, Don Pence, built his first home. When approached about building a log home, Don had been building conventional houses since 1964 and could not envision anyone wanting to live in an Abe Lincoln style structure with a dirty earthen floor. Don's mind was quickly changed when he looked into the construction of wood dwellings. He discovered that cedar was the best wood material and that post and beam construction was the strongest. From that was born "Colonial Structures, Inc. - America's Most Livable Home."

Don Pence and his two sons, Paul & Steve, organized Colonial Structures in 1985. Since that time, we have grown from a small office in Greensboro, North Carolina, to our 3,600 square foot log office in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

We have built some of the finest log homes around. We built NASCAR Winston Cup Champion, Dale Earnhardt's 7,000 square foot home in Mooresville, North Carolina, several condominiums, a restaurant and many residential homes in Deerfield Resort (located in Tennessee). From an 18,350 square foot Catholic church in Maryland to playhouses and dog houses; we build them all! If you can dream it, we can build it!

Colonial Structures was featured in the National Home Expo in Washington, D.C. We built a three bedroom, two-bath home with cathedral ceiling, fireplace, exposed beams and a fully equipped kitchen right inside the coliseum. We were also featured in the Cleveland Home and Flower Show.

As you can see, our history has afforded us many opportunities; yet, there are many more to come. Welcome to history in the making!
